Energy and Environment Conservation for Sustainable Development
UNDP supports sustainable management of natural resources, environmental protection and energy best practices. Activities in this focus area seek to support Bulgaria in meeting its international commitments and thus ensuring global, national and local environmental benefits. Since 2005 Bulgaria participates in the Small Grants Programme of the Global Environment Facility, the Bulgarian non-governmental sector being thus able to be actively involved in environmental activities.
Overall, the UNDP agenda centres on achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to reduce poverty levels by 2015. Specifically, MDG #7 ensures environmental sustainability through integrating sustainable development principles into national policies and programmes; reversing environmental resources loss; and reducing the proportion of people without access to drinking water and proper sewerage infrastructure.
To support conservation of energy and environment for sustainable development UNDP Bulgaria implements projects and programmes in the following sub-areas:
