Response to the HIV/AIDS threat
UNDP is one of ten UN agencies globally joined in a coalition to respond to the HIV/AIDS epidemics through the UN Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). In Bulgaria, the UNDP Resident Representative chairs the UN Thematic Group on HIV/AIDS whose goal is to coordinate all UN programmes’ efforts in the country and ensure that country-level responses to the epidemic are coherent and mutually reinforcing.
Bulgaria is still a low HIV prevalence country located in one of the regions with most rapidly growing rates of the epidemics. The country is often quoted in international surveys and reports as a success story in sustaining the spread of the epidemic. You can learn more about it in Bulgaria - National HIV/AIDS Response. Experience from a new EU member state (2001-2007).
The special Newsletter HIV Positively published on-line at www.unaids-bulgaria.org highlights the latest development in the area of HIV/AIDS prevention in the country.
